Thermo - hygrometer is one of the most important sauna equipment. The hygrometer is designed to measure and monitor changes in the humidity in the room, and the thermometer determines the temperature. Both of these devices are simply necessary if you want a safe and proper microclimate in the steam room. The humidity in the room must be controlled according to the temperature. The two devices are closely related, so the two are often sold as a single device. This is very convenient as it takes up less space and everything is in one place.
What data does the thermo - hygrometer show to be safe to visit the steam room?
When the temperature in the sauna is about 100 - 110 degrees, the hygrometer should show less than 35% humidity. In a steam sauna when the temperature is 60 degrees, the optimum humidity is 85%.
Correct installation of a thermo - hygrometer in the sauna
To obtain the most accurate readings, it is advisable to place the thermo - hygrometer at a height of approximately 1,6 meters. It is optimal when installed at a distance of 1.5 - 2 meters from the door, heater and windows. Because cold and heat sources confuse the accuracy of the readings.
Recommended indoor humidity and temperature levels:
Traditional steam sauna. Preferably, the thermo - hygrometer shows about 75 to 85% humidity and + 60 to 70 degrees heat;
Turkish bath (steam). The thermo - hygrometer should show a humidity level of 95 to 100% and a heat of + 70 to 100 degrees;
Sauna. Optimal when the thermo - hygrometer shows 25 - 35% humidity and + 100 - 110 degrees heat;
Washroom. The thermo - hygrometer must show 90 - 100% humidity and + 30 - 40 degrees heat;
Lounge. It is recommended that the thermo - hygrometer readings be 30 - 60% humidity and +20 - 25 degrees heat.
With the right ratio of temperature and humidity, sauna procedures will be pleasant and beneficial to the body.
HYGROMETER CALIBRATION
If the humidity reading on the device seems incorrect, it can be calibrated using a known humidity and temperature reference.
- Wrap the hygrometer in a damp towel,
- keep it for about 1 hour,
- then, after removing it, adjust the pointer to 100% using the adjustment screw.
Calibration alone is not enough for the hygrometer to show correct readings. The device should be installed at a height of about 1.6 m. If its size allows, it is best to place it 1.5–2 meters away from doors, windows, and a stone-loaded stove. Nearby sources of heat or cold may distort the readings.
