Wooden products for sauna construction – essential details for aesthetics and comfort
Building a sauna is a responsible yet enjoyable task, knowing that every step and every detail involved will create a relaxing, personal space for sauna rituals. Wooden products for saunas are designed not only to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of this space but also to ensure the comfort of every sauna-goer. It’s worth remembering that every well-thought-out detail is your contribution to a hobby that will become a cherished one.
The function of wooden products and finishing touches for the sauna
Wood is an indispensable material in traditional Finnish, electric, infrared, and even mobile saunas. It provides warmth, coziness, and comfort; it does not get hot, so you can fully relax and enjoy the ritual while enjoying the sauna. Among our customers, no sauna is complete without backrests (for both custom solutions and modular sauna benches), allowing you to lean back comfortably while sitting.
Seeking even more comfort, customers have recently been choosing special, curved bench elements (for example, the Taive bench element 16903), which, unlike standard modular sauna benches, do not have symmetrical edges, and their curves perfectly adapt to the contours of your legs while sitting.
Recently, backrests designed by SAWO have become particularly popular: the SAWO Infrared Backrest 17437 and the SAWO Backrest, Pine 19972. Their ergonomic curves adapt to the back, creating an even better relaxation experience.
Those who enjoy relaxing in the sauna while lying down have also come to appreciate sauna pillows: the Sauna Pillow 512-A PWV-11443 and the Taive Pillow 16919. These wooden products, by conforming to the anatomy of your neck and head, reduce muscle tension, creating a truly enjoyable sauna experience.
Sauna wood – which is best to choose?
The variety of sauna woods can be truly overwhelming, but experts recommend choosing hardwoods and wood species that withstand fluctuations in temperature and humidity well. Coniferous wood is not the best choice in this case due to resin secretion and poor tolerance to fluctuating humidity conditions.
We usually recommend that our clients choose black alder or cedar, which are highly valued for their resistance to moisture, warping, temperature changes, mold, and fungi. It is important to note that when heated, cedar releases essential oils that can create an even more relaxing sauna atmosphere.
Linden is also one of the most popular types of wood. Not only benches but also other wood products made from linden have lower thermal conductivity, heat up faster, and are highly resistant to both extreme dryness and humidity.
In our selection, you’ll find sauna paneling, wood for sauna benches, framing lumber for saunas, corners and trim, bench modules, and the aforementioned wood products to create a safe, healthy, and functional space.
Wood Care – The Key to a Sauna’s Longevity
It is important to remember that all wood products for saunas require annual maintenance. It is essential to note that the wood used inside the sauna must breathe naturally, so it cannot be varnished or painted. Annual oiling will not only preserve the natural properties of the wood but also maintain its thermal properties and ability to regulate humidity without harming health.
Sauna installation – leave it to the professionals
Our experts can not only provide useful information for those planning to build a sauna, including guidance on selecting sauna wood and wood products, but also offer a full range of sauna installation services. Why should you entrust the installation to professionals? First and foremost, it will save you a lot of time! A sauna specialist will advise you on the best options for your specific situation, help calculate the necessary materials, and ensure all safety features and equipment needed for a great sauna experience (sauna stove, chimney system, sauna wood, electrical wiring).
