A sauna aboard a yacht is a non-standard project in which conventional sauna construction solutions had to be adapted to the vessel’s structure and marine environment. The final appearance is only one part of the challenge – the framing, insulation, ventilation, electrical installation, heater area and every structural element must be coordinated with the fire safety requirements applicable to marine vessels.
For this project, a different framing installation method was used compared with conventional buildings, tailored to the yacht’s existing structure and engineering systems. Special fire-rated marine doors were finished with timber on the sauna side, allowing a technically complex element to become an integral part of the interior. A large window opens the space to the view outside, while light-coloured timber, clean lines and integrated lighting create a calm, uncluttered environment for relaxation.
Grade A linden wood was selected for the sauna interior cladding and benches. Its light tone and subtle, even appearance complement the minimalist interior, while the large window visually connects the sauna with the surroundings beyond the vessel.
Heating is provided by a Tylö Sense Commercial 16 electric sauna heater, controlled by a Tylö Pure control panel with an extension unit. The heater is filled with Harvia olivine sauna stones.
This is a project where sauna construction expertise meets the specific requirements of shipbuilding – from structural and fire safety solutions to the final timber finishes and integration of the heating equipment.
