1. How do swimming spa pools differ from regular spa pools?
Swimming spa pools combine different functions in a single unit: active swimming in a counter-current system and a relaxing hydromassage. A standard spa pool is designed solely for sitting and relaxing with massage jets, without additional space for swimming or a current mechanism. Swimming spa pools can be 4–6 m long and are suitable for use both indoors and outdoors year-round.
2. How much space should be allocated for a swimming pool at home?
The amount of space required for a swimming pool will depend on the model you choose. Swimming spa pools, such as the Fonteyn “Aquatic 1,” measure 400 × 228 cm and are 126 cm deep. Larger models can measure up to 600 × 228 cm. When installing the pool, it’s important to leave at least 50–70 cm of free space around the pool for maintenance. When choosing to install one outdoors, it is essential to ensure a level concrete foundation or a special slab for the pool’s installation; indoors, assess the potential floor load and ensure proper ventilation.
3. At what temperature can swimming spa pools operate outdoors in winter?

Swimming spa pools with effective thermal insulation and an electric heating system can be used outdoors year-round and can operate even when the outdoor temperature is -20 °C or lower. An electric heater (e.g., the 3 kW heater in the “Aquatic 1” model) will maintain the desired temperature; during extreme cold, the pool system simply works harder and consumes more electricity, but remains safe to use. For the Lithuanian climate, we recommend choosing models with additional thermal insulation and freeze protection.
4. How many massage jets does a swim spa have?
The Fonteyn “Aquatic 1” (4 m long) has 39 massage jets, while larger models can have 60 or more. The jets are typically located in seating and reclining areas: for back, leg, and foot massage. Different models may feature an integrated separate water flow system designed for active swimming against the current.
5. How much does a swim spa cost?
Prices for swim spas start at approximately €16,000 (Fonteyn “Aquatic 1,” 4 m) and can reach €40,000 or more for larger models or those with additional features. Below are the prices for the most popular models:
- “Aquatic 1” (400 × 228 cm) — starting at 16,000 €
- “Aquatic 2” — starting at 19,900 €
- “Aquatic 5” — starting at 28,800 €
- “Aquatic 6” — starting at 34,990 €
- Energy / Energy Deep — starting at €39,900
The price does not include delivery and installation, which can also be performed by qualified professionals.
6. How does the “Deep” version of the swimming pool differ from the standard one?
The “Deep” (deeper) version of swim spas has a greater depth than standard models, so you can swim with a full range of motion. This version is ideal for taller users and those who value greater water resistance and a more natural swimming experience.
7. How is a swim spa controlled?
Most swim spas available in stores are controlled via an integrated electronic control system (e.g., the Balboa TP600 controller) and support Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to control the spa from your phone using a smartphone app. The system allows you to control the water temperature, the intensity of the massage jets, and the lighting, as well as set a schedule for filtration and heating.
8. What maintenance is required for a swim spa?
Swim spas already come with integrated water treatment systems. Models in the “Aquatic” series feature an ozone sanitization system, which eliminates bacteria and reduces the need for chemicals, as well as a synergistic water maintenance system. Additionally, we recommend regularly checking and maintaining the pH and chlorine (or active oxygen) levels using specialized spa pool chemicals. The water should be changed once every few months, depending on usage frequency and water quality.
9. Is a swimming spa pool suitable for rehabilitation and therapeutic physical therapy?

Yes. These pools are suitable for older adults with joint problems or those recovering from surgery. Current adjustment allows you to tailor the physical exertion to your needs (from recovery to muscle strengthening), so the pool can be used for both sports rehabilitation and daily health maintenance.
10. How much does a swimming pool weigh?
A standard swimming pool, such as the Fonteyn “Aquatic 1” (400 × 228 cm), weighs 1,200 kg when empty and more than 8,500 kg when filled with water (7,500 l). The weight is specified in the technical specifications for each pool.
